Old Scholars Guild (OSG) rules and principles

What is OSG

OSG is not hardcore raiding guild and is not going to be "the world first kill" one. Instead OSG is going to be the loyal and tight-knit family guild that focuses on its members and their needs first. OSG is not a formal guild providing excuse to raid together at certain time but the guild where you can always enjoy team play - be it vanilla raid tour, old group quest, breeze through dailies etc.

OSG is the place to play WoW with friends, have fun in game and see as much of WotLK content as possible. That means we will be doing all instances, including 25-instances if we, as a guild, decide that we want to have some fun in there too. However we will limit raids to several days and up to a few hours. We might do arena, battlegrounds and world PvP from time to time as well but will focus mostly on PvE part of the game.

Founders of OSG have played WoW since early closed beta stages and raided most of the classic raids. Please refer to the video archives section. We aim to find more skilled and dedicated people that share our view of the game and what a guild is, wish to see more of the content, spend game time effectively without leaving real life aside.

Formal requirements to all OSG members:

  • You should be able to effectively communicate in English
  • You should be a mature player, have solid plans to play WoW and be reasonably dedicated to guild activity
  • You should know the class you are playing very well and be willing to improve your game experience
  • You should have reliable Internet connection and Ventrilo client v.3.x installed
  • You should have adequate gear for entry level raids

Guild rules:

- Playing WoW should be fun and real life is more important than any WoW activity. Since most of the end game fun comes from raiding and that requires a number of people being online, which is always a bit of sacrifice from everyone, reasonable attendance to guild raids is expected. phpRaid system is used to sign-up and plan ahead. Please respect other members' time and effort. Should a real life issue appear try your best to inform the guild that you will be unable to play for a certain reasonable period.

- All guild members are equal and will be treated equally and with respect. Ranks higher than member do not give any privileges, but more responsibilities instead. Selection of members for raid slots is based only on phpRaid system. No DKP or equal will ever be used.

- Be friendly, honest and open to your guild mates, treat them as if they are the members of your family. Such attitude is expected not only in guild related environment (guild chat, vent etc.) but in the general game world as well.

- Helping fellow guildies is every guild member's duty. That's how we play the game. Start your day asking who needs help.

- Communicate with your guild mates. Reading guild forum is a must. Speak up, say what you think openly and politely. No obscenities or denigrating comments will be tolerated on forum, in guild or voice chat (comments and suggestions forum always open).

- Improve yourself - develop skills and knowledge of the class you are playing, do not hesitate to ask your guild mates about their skills. Share your knowledge of the game with others.

- Basic class roles (warriors only tank, priests only heal etc.) are not enforced by OSG. Play the game the way you like it. Use common sense though when arrange groups/raids - OSG needs balance in group/raid composition that allows effective performance.

- Be prepared to the game. Means when instancing (with a group or raid) or questing spend some time to read about encounters and prepare to them.

- Loot is not your primary interest. Loot linking in guild chat etc. should be kept at a reasonable minimum. Loot linking to show off gear is not allowed.

- Need before greed (NBG) is the key principle of OSG. Always ask your guild mates if an item is in need for them. Friendly passing is a sign of your maturity and generosity.

- Do not ninja. It will not be tolerated inside or outside of the guild and will result in /gkick.

Guild policies:

Guild ranks

1. Guild Master/Elder -

2. Officers -

3. Members -

4. Initiate -

5. Alts

Alts policy

General rule is that only a single raiding character is used. Number of alts is not limited, but at certain point (details below) a decision must be made with the raiding character.

Guildbound principle

OSG is a guild for people who share the same views on the game and intend to stay together until WoW ends. That is why appreciation of the efforts of many people in helping others get more items to open access to more content is expected. This is especially true in regards to guild master professions and critical players (master tank etc.) and the rare recipes associated with that. In other words, receiving more hard-to-obtain-items from serious raids is a declaration of intention to stay with the guild in the long run.

Since real life is more important than any game activity there could be a situation when a dedicated player cannot continue to play temporarily or even has to stop playing for an extended period of time. This is acceptable. However transfer to another guild/server is not. In such a case adequate actions will be carried out.

Master tanks, master healers and master professions

Since raid progression is greatly dependent on well prepared tanks and healers and this role is considered as most stressful by the community, there will be a slight priority in item distribution for these players. However these players do participate in most if not all raids and have declared their intent to stay with the guild in the long run numerous times.

The same method of distribution and obligations is used for master professions. Any crafts in any quantities are carried out by the appropriate master profession player for no charge. Rare materials collected during guild event are put into guild bank and decision on their most appropriate use will be made.

Loot rules:

In the opinion of developers, no matter the skill, gear is necessary for content progression. The general rule of "pass first on everything - then we discuss" will be used. For certain runs with new member candidates master looter might be used to avoid accidents, however during full guild runs master looter will never be used.

NBG is used to decide who will receive the best upgrade, with a slight priority for master tanks and healers. As a general rule, a person with lower level item will be getting an upgrade first than the person with the higher level item. Friendly passing is the way loot handling is expected to go as well. Discussion regarding the class appropriate gear will also be held.

During guild events green and blue items will generally be disenchanted and these materials will be used for enchanting the epic drops the guild sees.

How to apply?

Guild isn't recruting any longer.
